You don’t have to go to the gym.

Updated: Apr 23, 2023

In fact, you can exercise anywhere. Shocking, I know.

Don’t get me wrong: I love throwing around heavy shit in the gym. And really, until I outfit my garage, that’s the only place I can do so.

…that doesn’t mean I *need* to go the gym anytime I want to lift. Most of the time, I don’t want to be around people (#thanksdepression), and no amount of all-or-nothing pep talk could get me in my car, on the road, up to Crunch.

Sometimes, I need to stay my butt home—like today. I lined up my dumbbells, and pumped out my at-home push day, followed by some light stretching.

tl;dr... If you don’t feel comfortable going to the gym today, THEN DON’T GO TO THE GYM.

❌ Don’t force yourself to go to the gym.

❌ Don’t guilt yourself into going to the gym.

❌ Don’t drag yourself to the gym.

❌ Don’t let others dictate your relationship with the gym.

Sure, there are some days when you may not feel like gym-ing, but once you’re there, you’re glad you went for it. But other times, you may find yourself having an anxiety episode in the parking lot.

So, before grabbing the car keys or your unlimited Metrocard, ask yourself:

✨ How do I feel about people today?

✨ What am I feeling in my gut?

✨ How does my body respond to the thought of going to the gym?

✨ Are there exercises I can do at home instead?

You don’t have to miss out on a workout just because you don’t go to the gym. You can still make fitness fit for you. All you need is your body, some room, and maybe an unhealthy obsession with burpees.
